Senator Anwarul Haq Kakar – a lawmaker from the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) – has been elected caretaker prime minister, a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said on Saturday.
This decision has been taken after the second round of consultation between Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Raja Riaz and a summary in this regard has been approved by President Arif Alvi under Article 224 1A.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Riaz said: “We decided that the interim prime minister will be from a small province”.
He said that the name of Kakar was suggested by him which was approved.

The development came after President Dr Arif Alvi wrote to Prime Minister Shehbaz, reminding him and the opposition leader to suggest a “suitable person” for the caretaker prime minister by August 12 (Saturday). has been done.
In a letter written to both Prime Minister Shehbaz and Riaz, the President told them that under Article 224A, they have to propose a name for the caretaker prime minister within three days of the dissolution of the National Assembly.

Who is Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar?
Senator Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, who has been nominated as the new Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, is a political personality from Balochistan.
Kakar was elected to the Senate in 2018 and has been a very active politician. He has also served as the spokesperson of the provincial government before being elected to the Upper House.
“Though he has been involved in politics, Kakar is known as a great intellectual in the country,” senior anchorperson Hamid Mir told JEE News.
Mir said that the BAP legislator belongs to the Kakar tribe of Pashtun origin, so he represents both Pashtuns and Baloch.
The senator also has good relations with mainstream political parties including Muslim League-N and People’s Party.
In 2008, Kakar contested the National Assembly election from Quetta on the ticket of Q-League.
He holds Masters Degree in Political Science, Sociology and is an alumni of Balochistan University.
