LAHORE: A large number of South Punjab political groups comprising former Members of Parliament (MNAs and MPAs) announced to join the Pakistan Peoples Party after meeting former President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday.
The politicians include former MNA Qutub Farid Korija, former MPAs Allah Wasaya Chunnu Leghari (father of former PTI MPA and Punjab cabinet member Khurram Leghari), Rasool Bakhsh Jatoi, Tehseen Nawaz Gardezi, Abbas Alamdar Qureshi, Pir Jaffer Muzamil, Abdul Ghafoor Arain, Amir Hyder Wattoo, Salman Ayub Mohal, Qasim Ali Shamsi and Fariha Batool. Former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gillani, former governor Punjab Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood, former chairman Senate Nayyar Hussein Bokhari and Hassan Murtaza were present.
Majority of the politicians belong to Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Mianwala, Khanewal and Okara. Zardari welcomed the new entrants to the party. Talking to the media outside Bilawal House, Yusuf Raza Gilani said that Imran Khan made a mistake by dissolving the assemblies. He said that the entire nation, including PTI members, is condemning the events of May 9.
The law will take its course and “we don’t get to decide who will be minus in the future”. He said that no party should have a military wing. Many politicians are in touch with the People’s Party. Only the party with good performance will form the next government.
