ANKARA: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif joined world leaders at the swearing-in ceremony of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday. On behalf of the government and people of Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated President Erdogan on being elected as the President for the third term. The two leaders shook hands and exchanged greetings. Information and Broadcasting Minister Maryam Aurangzeb also congratulated President Erdogan.
Traditional music and Turkish national anthem were played during the ceremony. President ErdoÄŸan was accompanied by his wife Ayman ErdoÄŸan.
In his remarks on the occasion, President Erdogan thanked the people of Turkey for electing him for a second term. He urged the Turkish people to build unity and work for a better future through collective efforts. Democracy is strong in Turkey. High-level officials from 78 countries participated in the swearing-in ceremony of Turkish President Erdogan. In addition to 21 heads of state, 13 prime ministers, parliamentary and ministerial level representatives and representatives of international organizations including Organization of Turkish States (OTS), NATO and Organization of Islam, participated in the ceremony at the presidential complex. Earlier, President Erdogan was sworn in at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and started his new term. He received his mandate from the temporary speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Devlet Bahceli. After taking the oath, Erdogan visited Anit Kabir. After the ceremony, President Erdogan hosted guests at the former home of Turkish presidents, Cankaya Palaka. He is expected to announce his cabinet after dinner.
Erdogan won last Sunday’s presidential election with 52.18 percent of the vote. According to the final results released by the country’s Supreme Election Council, opposition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu received 47.82 percent of the vote.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday invited Turkish businessmen to invest in Pakistan and establish strategic cooperation in energy, agriculture, information technology (IT) and construction sectors.
Chief executives of Turkish business groups met the Prime Minister here during his visit to Turkey.
During the meetings, the prime minister outlined the government’s vision to facilitate foreign direct investment and encouraged joint ventures. Their exchanges revolved around expanding trade and investment ties to maximize mutual benefit from opportunities available in Pakistan and direct presence of Turkish businesses and joint ventures with Pakistani counterparts. Cooperation in key sectors of the economy can be enhanced through projects.
It should be noted that after the two countries signed a historic agreement on trade in commercial goods in August last year, which began on May 1, new opportunities for trade in traditional and non-traditional products have arisen between the two countries. . Therefore, to make effective use of these opportunities, the Prime Minister urged Turkish companies to invest in Pakistan, assuring them of full facilitation and favorable business environment.
The prime minister held separate meetings with leading Turkish companies that have already invested in Pakistan, including Anadolu Group, Arcelik, Zorlo, Alberic, Lemak, Dolcer, Turkish Contractors Association and Pak Ytrem. During the meeting, the Prime Minister encouraged them to take advantage of the investment-friendly environment and expand their operations. Turkish companies apprised the Prime Minister of their current and future investment plans while thanking him for facilitating their operations in Pakistan.
A large number of Turkish businesses are already operating in Pakistan in various sectors and contributing to the economic development of the country.
Nevertheless, there are great opportunities for cooperation and collaboration in the energy sector. Especially hydro and solar, housing and construction, infrastructure, tourism and transportation. During the meeting with Zorlo Group’s Sinan Ik, the two sides discussed projects related to wind energy and solar energy.
