LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Wednesday proposed to mediate between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led coalition government. .
Speaking to JEE News, he said, “If the politicians stay in touch, the damage to the economy can be avoided. If Imran Khan says so, I will personally talk to the Prime Minister [Shahbaz Sharif] in this regard.” will do.”
The PTI has been pressuring the coalition government at the Center to hold early elections in light of the “deteriorating economy”, but the previous government did not heed the demand.
Khan had said last week that he would delay dissolving the assemblies if the government decided to hold general elections in March, but the government rejected the offer, saying the elections would be held on time in October 2023. .
But while the PTI is adamant about its demand for early elections, its ally Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi believes that he does not see elections happening in the next four months.
As a result of the turbulent political situation in the country, the Pakistani rupee is losing its value and investors are worried. Not only this, but the impasse between the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the government has also led to the depreciation of the local currency.
In a conversation with JEE News today, Shujaat also noted that all the assemblies should complete their term because even if the Punjab Assembly is dissolved, it will create a constitutional crisis.
Conversation with Parvez Elahi, Asif Zardari
Highlighting PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s recent visit, Shujaat said the former president came to his residence to inquire about his well-being – nothing more.
The former prime minister said that I have not discussed the situation in Punjab with Asif Zardari, it is really possible that we will talk about Pervez Elahi in the future.
Shujaat said that he neither spoke to Elahi nor Zardari about PDM.
However, sources told JEE News that Zardari asked them not to dissolve the assemblies, assuring them of a new setup after consultation. Sources say that Zardari assured Shujaat that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) leader Hamza Shehbaz will not be the chief minister of Punjab in the new setup.
On his terms with Elahi, Shujaat said he does not discuss politics with the chief minister and only discusses matters of “national interest”.
“I had advised Pervaiz Elahi not to file an FIR (First Information Report) against the army officer.”
