The Sindh government is launching a massive crackdown on vehicles that are unregistered or plying on open lines, with “registration applied for” notices or fake registration number plates, JEE News reported on Tuesday. Lack of number plates or vehicles with tinted glass, JEE News reported on Tuesday.

The government has decided to crack down on vehicles violating the relevant laws – after the attack on the Karachi police office last week – starting from February 28.

Owners of such vehicles have been given a week’s time after which all vehicles found violating the relevant rules will be impounded.

Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon along with Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla and Legal Adviser to the Chief Minister Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced this in a press conference at the Sindh Archives Complex after the meeting presided over by the Chief Minister.

Memon said that no one will be spared after this non-stop campaign begins. He said that no showroom owner has the authority to sell an unregistered vehicle. “If someone sells an unregistered vehicle which is then used in an offence, the showroom owner will also be liable for the offence.”

SOPs after KPO attack
He added that after the recent attack on KPO, the provincial government has taken important decisions, and it has been decided to implement SOPs to deal with such situations in future.

He also said that in such situations, traffic management will be done in this area. The traffic police will play their role in this, but the public and all other stakeholders are also requested to fully cooperate in this regard.

The minister said that in such situations, the public will be informed through broadcasting organizations, FM radio and social media to keep their vehicles in one lane, one lane completely empty and police, other law enforcement agencies, ambulances, Be kept open for fire brigades and Other concerned agencies.

He said that as soon as the KPO incident happened last Friday, the ambulance service of private welfare organizations parked their vehicles in front. “We appreciate their spirit, but if 10 vehicles are needed while 100 vehicles are being pushed, it will block the route and make it difficult for the police and other law enforcement agencies to work.”

SOPs have now been made, under which vehicles will be allowed to proceed in such a situation after consultation with the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of the concerned areas.

Media vehicles
He also said that the Chief Secretary will hold a meeting with all the private ambulance organizations in this regard. He added that media vehicles also reached the spot for breaking news. “Breaking news is not important in such a situation. Some channels broadcast that 10 terrorists are inside the compound, diverting the attention of the police and security agencies.

Memon said that in such situations the media needs to work more responsibly and attentively and should proceed in consultation with the management. Pemra will also be consulted in this regard.

No display of weapons.
He said that after one week no one will be allowed to display weapons, those displaying weapons will be arrested and FIR will be registered against them. No one will be spared in the campaign, no matter how influential.

He also said that no concession will be given to government ministers, advisers, assembly members and opposition party members. “Only police, rangers and other law enforcement personnel in uniform will be allowed to carry weapons, but no personnel out of uniform will be allowed to do so.”

The minister said that even private security guards will not be allowed to display weapons in uniform. If a person is found involved in displaying weapons, he will face the law. The media should support the government in this campaign and if anyone shows weapons anywhere, it should be pointed out.

He said that citizens should keep an eye on their neighborhoods and report suspicious activities on the 15 helpline. He added that if someone rents a house, shop or car, he should share the information with the local police station, which is mandatory for everyone under the law.

He also said that private vehicles impersonating police and security agencies would also be seized. All these laws are already in place, and they will be strictly enforced, he added.

While talking to the press, Wahab said that the constitution is a social contract between the state and the people. He further said that like the government, the people also have the responsibility to play their role in implementing them.

He said that all these laws exist, but they are not implemented. He added that the government faced many hurdles in responding to the terrorist attack on KPO. “Such an emergency requires immediate response.”

He also said that the first injured in the incident was a volunteer of a welfare organization who was rushed to the hospital. In such a situation, no one should come forward without the permission of the district administration so that the security agencies can work better.

‘Media should show responsibility’
Wahab added that during the operation against terrorists, TV channels were saying that snipers have reached a particular building, and in such a situation terrorists can misuse this information.

Terrorist facilitators who are sitting far away can send these messages to terrorists through mobile phones. Media should show responsibility. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government believes in freedom of expression.

Responding to a question regarding the delay in issuance of vehicle registration number plates, Chawla said that this was a problem in the past as well, but since the new design of number plates was launched, his department has been ensuring that That number plates should be issued on time.
