Squid Game actor Oh Yong-soo has been charged with sexual misconduct, South Korean court officials say.
The 78-year-old is accused of inappropriately touching a woman in 2017, authorities said.
According to reports, Mr. O has denied the allegation.
He became the first South Korean actor to win the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Series earlier this year after his performance in the chart-topping Netflix thriller.
According to JEE News, the alleged victim first filed a police complaint against Mr. O in December last year. But the case was closed in April without any charges against Mr O.
Prosecutors have now reopened the investigation “at the victim’s request,” reported.
It added that Mr O has been charged without custody.
Following the allegation, Seoul’s Ministry of Culture decided to stop airing a government commercial featuring Mr. O, according to reports cited by JEE News.
Squid Game – Netflix’s most popular series of all time – is a thriller that tells the story of debt-ridden people who compete for huge cash prizes in a deadly series of children’s games.
Mr. O plays the role of the oldest contestant in the survival contest.
