In a fresh attempt to restart the stalled debt program by completing the pending 9th review, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday asked International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on the sidelines of the New Global Financing Pact Summit in Paris.

In the meeting, ongoing programs and cooperation between Pakistan and IMF were discussed.

Recalling their recent telephonic conversation on May 27, 2023, the Prime Minister apprised Ms. Georgieva of Pakistan’s economic outlook.

Shahbaz Sharif outlined the government’s initiatives for economic development and stability. He emphasized that all preliminaries for the ninth review under the Extended Fund Facility have been completed and the Government of Pakistan is fully committed to fulfilling its commitments to the IMF.

The Prime Minister hoped that the funds allocated under the IMF’s EFF would be released as soon as possible.

Shahbaz asserted that this would strengthen Pakistan’s ongoing efforts for economic stability and provide relief to its people.

The IMF Managing Director conveyed his institution’s perspective on the ongoing review process. The meeting provided a useful opportunity to review the progress made in this context.

Meanwhile, the Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Ms. Sherry Rehman; Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq; Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ms. Maryam Aurangzeb; Minister of State for Finance and Revenue, Ms. Ayesha Ghous Pasha; Special Assistant to Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and Ambassador of Pakistan to France Asim Iftikhar Ahmed attended the meeting.
