Sukkur Accountability Court on Tuesday ordered the Provincial Home Secretary to remove the name of senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah from the Exit Control List (ECL) in the disproportionate assets case.

The court also allowed him to go abroad for a month for treatment of his medical condition.

The travel ban was imposed on Shah in 2019 for having more assets than his declared sources of income.

Shah was included in the reference filed against 18 persons. Others in the reference include Shah’s wives, daughters, sons and close associates who allegedly embezzled Rs 1.23 billion.

Since then he has not been able to leave the country as the Supreme Court said his name would remain on the exit control list.

Former Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandyal had directed the NAB to continue the investigation against Shah but not keep him in jail permanently.
