ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday said that companies whose cases are pending in the Islamabad High Court should also pay 50 percent super tax.
This decision was given by a three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umer Ata Bandial during the hearing of the Super Tax case. The court directed the Islamabad High Court and the Lahore High Court to decide the super tax cases as soon as possible and said that the case will be heard further after the decision of the high courts.
The Chief Justice remarked that it would be appropriate to wait for the decisions of the higher courts. Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) lawyer Faisal Siddiqui said that the Sindh High Court has already issued its decision on the matter. He said that the cases of super tax are also pending in Islamabad High Court and Lahore High Court. Later, the court directed the companies to pay 50 percent super tax and said that further hearing will be held after Eid-ul-Fitr.
