ISLAMABAD: A citizen has approached the Supreme Court for the return of members of PTI National Assembly including PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

Engineer Qazi Muhammad Saleem filed a petition in the Supreme Court under Article 184(3) of the Constitution in which the Federation, the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Secretary of the National Assembly were made parties.

The petitioner took the position that the MLAs have deprived lakhs of voters of the constituencies by resigning their rights.

He said that the Supreme Court fulfilling its constitutional responsibility can direct these parliamentarians to return to the National Assembly to protect the fundamental rights of the voters and bring the lower house back on the political track.

The petitioner said that Imran Khan has done an unconstitutional and childish act by resigning en bloc after the success of the no-confidence vote against the former prime minister and the impoverishment of the PTI government.

He further said that the country’s largest political party, being absent from the National Assembly, has provided an open field to the current coalition government which is making laws of its own accord. He cited the recent amendments in the NAB Ordinance 1999 as an example.

The petitioner has also told the Supreme Court that PTI’s decision to resign from the National Assembly and then contest the by-elections was inconsistent.

The petitioner requested the Supreme Court to seek an explanation from the Speaker National Assembly for accepting the resignation of 11 members of PTI.
