IHC reserves Judgment
Meanwhile, in a separate development, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) reserved its verdict against Swati’s lawyer Babar Awan’s plea to stay the transfer of the senator.
Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamir Farooq heard the request for information on all the cases filed against Swati.
Additional Attorney General (AAG) Manoor Iqbal Dogal told the court that after the 18th Amendment, “there is no law under which the Home Ministry can call for a report”.
“Do you have any administrative control or not?” The court inquired, to which the AAG responded by saying that the Center can maintain “coordination” with the province on police-related policies, but “the federal government has no power to issue directives to the provincial government”.
He added that ‘we can provide information related to FIA but how many cases are registered in the provinces, we cannot get such information’.
However, Awan argued that all human rights issues were “matters of policy” and therefore the Center could obtain such information from the provinces.
“If so, they will neither be able to write a letter nor host a press conference,” he replied, adding, “Then [the federal government] should take a clear stand that beyond Faizabad No option”.
“Hundreds of cases may be registered against me, but it is my legal right to defend myself in these cases. At least tell me how many cases there are,” the lawyer added.
Awan then pleaded with the court to stay Swati’s transfer until it was revealed how many cases were registered against her.
The court has reserved judgment on the matter.

Azam Swati said in his petition that the federal agency arrested him in a false case, many cases are registered against him in the country.
