South Africa won by 104 runs.

Rilee Rossouw scored the first century of this year’s Men’s T20 World Cup as South Africa beat Bangladesh by 104 runs in Sydney.

Rossouw scored 109 off 56 balls, with eight sixes and seven fours as South Africa posted 205-5.

He put on a 163-run second-wicket partnership with Quinton de Kock, the biggest stand in the history of the tournament.

Quick Enrich Noortje then took 4-10 as Bangladesh were bowled out for 101 in 16.3 overs.

Rossouw’s score was the fifth highest in the Men’s T20 World Cup and South Africa’s first century.

He repeatedly cleared the leg-side boundary and reached his fifty in 30 balls and three figures in 52.

Rossouw did not play for the Proteas between 2016 and July this year after taking the Kolpak deal but, after scoring 100 not out against India earlier this month, has scored centuries in back-to-back competitive T20Is.

After being caught in the very first over by skipper Temba Bawma, Russo showed brute force in his attacking pace and spin and was eventually caught out by Shakib Al Hasan.

South Africa’s total is their highest ever in this year’s competition but it did not look out of reach when Rossouw and de Kock, who made 63 off 38, were batting on 240. There, only the Proteas had to add 29 for the loss of three. Wickets in last five overs

Bangladesh scored 26 runs in the first two overs but the introduction of Northjay, who bowled with great pace, settled the contest as he caught Soumya Sarkar at the bottom of 15 and Najamul Hussain in the third over. Bolded Shantu.

Noortje came back to end the innings by sprinkling the stumps of Tasin Ahmed in his fourth over, as spinner Tabriz Shamsi took 3-20 in the middle.

South Africa were hampered by rain in a washout against Zimbabwe but the win lifted them to the top of the Group 2 table and confirmed their position as one of the teams to fear.
