South Africa crashed out of the Men’s T20 World Cup after losing by 13 runs to the Netherlands in their final group match.

Set to 159 to reach the semi-finals, South Africa lost regular wickets on a difficult pitch and were tied by an inspired Dutch side.

The defeat means the winner of the match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, which kicks off at 04:00 GMT, will leapfrog the Proteas and progress alongside India, who have qualified thanks to defeat of South Africa. .

After a tournament full of surprises, this stunning result in Adelaide is possibly the biggest shock of them all.

South Africa were seen as one of the favorites for the tournament while Netherlands are the lowest ranked team in the Super 12 stage.

“We have played well up to this point in the tournament,” said captain Temba Buoma.

“Again, we fumbled when it really mattered. That’s going to be hard to swallow.

“At the end of the day it wasn’t good enough.”

South Africa Under Pressure Again
The loss added another disappointing day to South Africa’s storied history of struggling under pressure on the biggest stage.

They started poorly with the ball – Stephan Myburgh and Max O’Dowd took advantage of some exceptional bowling to add 58 runs for the first wicket – and, after dragging things out in the middle, they put the Netherlands to good use. allowed to finish while Colin Ackerman hit two sixes. Wayne Parnell’s last over to complete 41 not out off 26 balls.

Proteas captain Temba Baoma opted to chase but the decision was soon proved wrong.

With Quinton de Kock trailing for 13, scoring on a slow surface became increasingly difficult – Bauma bowled around his legs, Riley Russo was out at deep midwicket and Aiden Markram had a steady slide. Caught on a critical edge as part of

Meanwhile, the Netherlands was exceptional. Their bowlers mixed pace with slower balls and their fielders were superbly athletic to deny two more South African boundaries.

There was also a sensational catch from 37-year-old Roelof van der Merwe, who played 26 times for South Africa before heading to the Netherlands to dismiss David Miller.

Miller top-pulled off seamer Brendan Glover and van der Merwe brilliantly ran back to short fine leg before driving the ball two hands inches up the ground.

This left South Africa needing 47 runs off 28 balls and after two overs, Henrik Klaasen was dismissed at deep mid-wicket to end the game.

At every wicket, Pakistani fans cheered wildly, arriving early for their team’s match at the same ground. Despite starting the tournament with two defeats, Pakistan now have a real chance of reaching the last four.

The result also means the Netherlands will automatically qualify for the next T20 World Cup, unless Bangladesh and Zimbabwe win later in the day.
