KABUL: He and two others were killed in an explosion at the office of the Taliban governor in Afghanistan’s northern Balkh province on Thursday.
Balkh Police Spokesman Mohammad Asif Waziri said, “A blast occurred inside the second floor of the governor’s office at around 9 am today, killing (governor) Maulvi Mohammad Daud Muzmal along with two civilians.”
He said the police are investigating and will provide more details when clear.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately known. The incident marks one of the most senior officials killed since the Taliban took over the country in 2021.
ISIS has claimed several deadly attacks in Afghanistan in recent months, some on civilian targets and some on Taliban security forces.
