The district administration of Islamabad has decided to form a technical committee to investigate the fire that broke out in the city’s Centaur Mall and also determine whether the property is in compliance with Capital Development Authority (CDA) rules. Made by doing.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Irfan Nawaz outlined that the fact-finding panel will also investigate whether the fire emergency system was operational at the time of the incident.
“Evacuation and rescue procedures will also be reviewed by the committee,” he said. He added that they would check whether fire emergency drills were ever conducted for mall staff to ensure the safety of people.
The DC also said that there is no restriction on shopkeepers taking goods outside the mall premises.
He denied the allegation of political vendetta leveled by the mall management and said that the three towers will be opened only after the inquiry committee declares them safe for the public.
“We are trying to save lives,” said DC Nawaz, stressing that this should have been done earlier.
He assured that the district administration is not in favor of imposing financial pressure on anyone and is only taking measures for public health and safety.
The DC said that the matter will be taken up in the light of the report of the technical committee.
