Chelsea have sacked manager Thomas Tuchel on his 100th day in charge under new owners after their third defeat of the season.
The former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain boss is out after winning three trophies in 20 months.
Owner Todd Boehly has put Tuchel’s coaching staff in temporary charge until a replacement is found.
A statement from the club said the owners believed it was the “right time” to bring in a new head coach.
We believes the decision would have been taken regardless of Chelsea’s 1-0 Champions League opener at Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday night.
Chelsea are also understood to be quick to make appointments and bookmakers’ favorites include Brighton manager Graham Potter, former Spurs and PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino, former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane and current Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers.
Chelsea are sixth in the Premier League after three wins, one draw and two defeats.
Their new ownership oversaw a spending spree of £255.3m in the summer window, believed to be a British record, bringing in eight new players.
But despite the spending, the club’s form has been poor and Tuchel has been critical of his players on occasion, as well as being fined twice for his behavior already this season.
Tuchel – who led Chelsea to the Champions League title in his first season – is believed to have lost the trust of the squad and the board in recent days, and has had less communication with both groups.
A club statement said: “As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the club, and as they continue to work hard to take the club forward, the new owners believe that It’s the right time to transition.”
“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the club would like to thank Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during his time with the club. The Super Cup and Club World Cup during his time here. “
Jee News also understands that Chelsea will now be looking for a long-term manager who shares their vision for a collaborative culture and focus on the development of all players in the squad.
New signings – including the deadline day deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona – were down to the board and Tuchel contributing, and are said to have become less involved over time.
Tuchel was appointed on 26 January, 2021, replacing Frank Lampard, and guided the club to their second Champions League title just four months later.
He went on to add the Uefa Super Cup and Fifa Club World Cup later that year.
