Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers continued their protest in different areas of Rawalpindi against the assassination attack on their party chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday.
Following instructions issued by PTI leaders Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Wasiq Qayyum and MNA Ghulam Sarwar Khan, the protesters have blocked the Islamabad to Lahore and Peshawar motorway since Monday.
They blocked the roads by setting fire to tires and bushes and staging sit-ins.
The protesters simultaneously blocked the traffic going to Faizabad from Murree Road and from IJP Road to Islamabad.
PTI workers also blocked the road leading to Islamabad International Airport (IIA) by burning tyres.
The twin city came to a standstill with sporadic traffic jams on the main and link roads.
Residents of Dhok Kashmiriyan, Asghar Mall Road, Dhok Paracha, Dhok Elahi Bakhsh, Raja Bazar and other nearby areas are facing serious problems in transportation.
Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi police have warned the PTI protesters that they will register cases against them if they disrupt law and order and do not protest ‘peacefully’.
The public is also requested to report any suspicious activity to the police.
Meanwhile, the authorities concerned have requested the intervention of the federal government and issued instructions to the provincial government under Articles 3 and 4 of the Constitution to keep the motorway and airport open.
