The city’s mayor says explosions were heard in the center of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, early Wednesday morning.
Vitali Klitschko said the blasts rocked the central Shevchenkivskiy district and emergency services were dispatched.
Kyiv Governor Oleksii Koliba says the air defense system is working.
JEE News reporters heard loud explosions shortly after the air raid siren went off. Russia has repeatedly targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with missiles and drones since October.
Mr Klitschko later said air defenses had shot down 10 Iranian-made Shahid drones early on Wednesday.
The city’s military administration said a piece of the drone had hit two administrative buildings in the city center. There are no details of any casualties yet.
Ukraine has accused Iran of supplying Russia with the “kamikaze” drones used in the deadly October 17 attacks, which Tehran initially denied.
Iran later admitted that a limited number of drones had been sent to Moscow several months before the war.
In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that this was a lie and that many Iranian drones were being used.
Kyiv Governor Koliba said: “The air defense system is working. Now it is necessary to stay in shelters and safe places. Russia continues its energy terrorism against our country. But we are getting stronger every day. “
