PESHAWAR: A day after a Hindu doctor was shot dead in Karachi, police confirmed that a Sikh shopkeeper was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa capital on Friday.
The police, who collected 30 pistol rounds and other evidence from the crime scene, confirmed that the victim – Dayal Singh – died on the spot after the attack at his store.
He also confirmed that CCTV footage is being obtained from the crime scene.
However, the motive behind the killing is yet to be ascertained and the police have not ruled out the possibility that the incident was motivated by personal grudge.
After the incident, SSP Operations Haroon-ul-Rashid Khan went to the house of the Sikh businessman and expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased.
In the meeting, he informed the relatives of the investigation so far and assured to arrest the killers as soon as possible.
Singh leaves behind a widow and three children.
The incident comes a day after Hindu Dr Birbal Ginani – former Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) senior director of health and eye specialist – was shot dead by unknown assailants in the port city.
According to the police, Dr. Ginani along with his assistant lady doctor was going from Ramaswami to Gulshan Iqbal when unknown gunmen targeted his car near Garden Interchange on Lyari Expressway.
Former KMC Health Director died on the spot while his assistant sustained bullet injuries.
Talking to the journalists, SSP City Arif Aziz termed the killing of Dr. Ginani as a ‘target killing’ and added that the real reason for the killing is still unknown.
The female doctor – who works with him – was riding in the vehicle when unknown assailants attacked the vehicle.
