The government has decided to introduce new measures to further reduce the country’s electricity bill by including new measures in building codes to use more energy efficient appliances and utilities as they are locally manufactured. Wants to increase electricity mix.
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said this while addressing a news briefing after the federal cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
Federal Minister for Information Maryam Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for Energy Khurram Dastgir Khan, Federal Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman and Federal Minister for Housing and Works Abdul Wasi were also with him.
Under the new strategy, markets and marriage halls across the country will be closed by 8 pm and 10 pm respectively.
Asif lamented that we continue to use inefficient equipment with only fans that consume around 12,000 MW of electricity at peak.
He added that our lavish and luxurious lifestyle does not match our resources.
He added that the Prime Minister has directed all federal government institutions to reduce electricity bills by 30 percent and avoid unnecessary use of lights and other such equipment.
He said that the federal cabinet has agreed to implement the energy saving plan presented by the power division.
