Former Indian top-order batsman Virender Sehwag said in an interview recently that Pakistan will be among the four teams to make it to the semi-finals of the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup.
The tournament is scheduled to be held in India later in October-November.
Sehwag picked four teams that he believed had specific gameplay to excel in the tournament.
During the interview, Sehwag said that he believed the teams that would make it to the semi-finals of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 were India, Pakistan, Australia and England.
“If I have to pick four teams – Australia, England, India and Pakistan. These are the semi-finalists.
“Australia and England will definitely be there because of the type of cricket they are playing – they don’t play traditional shots, only unconventional – these 2 teams are very good at it.
Also, England and Australia are two distant teams who can play better cricket in the subcontinent.”
Earlier this month, former Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath also shared that he is confident Pakistan will make it to the semi-finals of the World Cup.
McGrath shared his final four World Cup squads in his latest interview. He said that England, Australia, India and Pakistan will make it to the semi-finals of the World Cup.
“No one should be surprised as I have named Australia in the last four. England and Pakistan are playing really good cricket while India will take full advantage of their home conditions,” he added.
The World Cup kicks off on October 5 in India, with defending champions England playing the opening match against last World Cup finalists New Zealand.
Pakistan will begin their campaign on October 6 against Holland in Hyderabad. The Green Shirts will play a high-octane clash against India on October 15 in Ahmedabad. The match is likely to be moved due to Navratri celebrations which are scheduled to begin on the same day.
