ISLAMABAD: The government on Monday announced that the World Bank will release more than $3 billion to Pakistan for infrastructure development in the power sector.
“The World Bank is supporting energy efficiency and conservation programs, besides assisting provinces in installing solar power projects,” the official statement said.
This determination came during a meeting between World Bank officials and Energy Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan and his team at the Power Division.
The delegation was informed that the government has taken tough and difficult decisions in the power sector and one of the important measures is the increase in electricity prices.
He said that it is politically difficult but the government is committed to ensure sustainability in the energy sector.
The minister said that the government is committed to provide relief to the common man.
According to the statement, Khan praised the World Bank for recognizing the challenges facing the country and the difficult decisions taken in its wake.
The delegation was also briefed on Casa 1000 and Daso Power projects.
Earlier, the World Bank had signed two agreements with Pakistan to lend $500 million to Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the $200 million Punjab Resilient and Inclusive Agriculture Transformation Project and the $300 million Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Accessibility Project. .
