Sixteen people, including three Pakistanis, were killed and nine injured in a massive fire at a residential building in Dubai on Saturday, News reported.
An Indian social worker, Naseer Vatanapalli, said they have been able to identify four Indians, three Pakistanis and a Nigerian woman.
“So far, we have been able to identify four Indians, including a couple from Kerala and two men from Tamil Nadu working in the building, three Pakistani cousins and a Nigerian woman”.
Vathanpalli said he was in touch with the Dubai Police, the Indian Consulate in Dubai, other diplomatic missions and friends and relatives of the deceased.
Dubai Civil Defense teams are working to put out the fire and immediate medical attention was provided to the injured, a spokesman said, offering condolences to the families of those killed.
After the fire was reported, the teams reached the spot within six minutes, located near Alras area of the city.
The spokesman said that the preliminary investigation showed that the incident occurred due to non-compliance of safety and security requirements of the building. However, a detailed report on the cause of the fire will be provided after a comprehensive investigation.
The fire broke out in the building at 12:35 pm on Saturday and was brought under control at 2:42 pm. It exploded in an apartment on the fourth floor of the building.
