Surging militancy
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called a meeting of the Apex Committee in Peshawar today, in which the issue of terrorism in the country, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, will be considered.
The development comes after a horrific suicide attack on a mosque in Peshawar on Monday in which over 100 people were martyred and over 200 injured.
The country has been facing growing insurgency, particularly in Balochistan and KP, after the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended a ceasefire with Islamabad in November.
More than 87,000 people have been killed in Pakistan since the start of the war against terrorism. The martyrs include innocent civilians, armed forces and personnel of the police and other civil armed forces.
Security forces have been carrying out successive operations to eliminate militants, but the past five months have seen an increase in terrorist attacks, which have also claimed the lives of many civilians.
As the TTP reportedly regrouped in Afghanistan after the Taliban took over, Pakistan repeatedly asked the neighboring country’s government to ensure that its territory was not used for terrorism. But the Taliban-led government could not live up to expectations.
According to Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, militant activity has been mainly concentrated in Balochistan and KP, with the former responsible for 31 percent of attacks during the past year and 67 percent of the latter.
In response to increasing terrorist attacks, the National Security Committee (NSC) decided that no country would be allowed to provide safe havens and facilities to terrorists and Pakistan reserved all rights to protect its people. keeps
The Forum reiterated its commitment to zero tolerance for terrorism in Pakistan and reiterated its determination to take action against any and all entities that resort to violence.
