The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has called a meeting of its central leadership and “emergency committee” to announce the future course of action following the arrest of party chairman Imran Khan in the Al-Qadri Trust case.

The PTI chief was arrested as part of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) probe in the Al-Qadir Trust case, before appearing before the IHC seeking bail in several FIRs registered against him.

Rangers personnel driving a black Toyota Hilux Vigo took the former prime minister to the NAB Rawalpindi office.

In a statement, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that a meeting of the emergency committee formed by the central leadership and the party chief has been called to consider the future course of action in view of the arrest.

He further said that the future course of action will be announced after reviewing the situation.

PTI leaders Saifullah Niazi, Azam Swati, Ejaz Chaudhry, Murad Saeed, Ali Amin and Shah Mehmood Qureshi are part of the emergency committee.

Qureshi also condemned the “attack” on the IHC and the alleged torture of the party chief during his arrest.

Qureshi criticized law enforcement agencies for detaining Khan during biometric verification and storming the court.

The senior party leader said that the Chief Justice of IHC has taken notice of the arrest and added that the party will continue to fight the legal and political battle with full determination.

Later, while holding a press conference in Islamabad, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that no one was tortured during the arrest of the ousted prime minister, he said that PTI chief’s security personnel tortured him.

“The Rangers did not break the windows, they were broken during the chaotic situation,” he added.

Talking about the arrest, Sanaullah said that Khan has been detained according to law. NAB is an independent body and the government neither controls nor tries to control it.

He said that NAB is conducting an inquiry against the former prime minister. Imran Khan’s investigation on the notice of NAB was necessary and it was not a political revenge against him.

The security czar also said that the PTI chairman tried to resist the arrest and the party’s lawyers obstructed the legal process.

Sanaullah said that Khan was making corruption cases against his political opponents when he himself was involved in corruption.

What is Al Qadir Trust Case?

The former prime minister, along with his wife Bushra Bibi and other PTI leaders, is facing a NAB inquiry into the collusion between the PTI government and property tycoons that allegedly cost the national exchequer £190 million.

According to the charges, Khan and the other accused allegedly adjusted 50 billion rupees – 190 million pounds – sent to the government by the British National Crime Agency (NCA).

He is also accused of obtaining illegal benefits in the form of more than 458 kanals of land at Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa for the establishment of Al-Qadir University.
