After a senior army officer was killed in a shootout in South Waziristan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif vowed to “uproot terrorism” from the country because it was against the concept of Pakistan.
We are deeply saddened by the martyrdom of Brigadier Mustafa Barki and other soldiers. Condoling the bereaved families, Prime Minister Shehbaz tweeted that the brave sons of our country have sacrificed their lives protecting the country from hostile forces.

A day ago, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement  had shared the news of the martyrdom of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) officer Brigadier Barki, during a fierce exchange of fire with terrorists near Anwar Adda in South Waziristan.
Seven others were injured during the gunfight, the army’s media wing said.
According to the army’s media wing, the condition of two of the injured is critical.
“Brigadier Birki and his team bravely resisted the terrorists during the encounter and the officer laid down his life for the peace of the motherland,” the ISPR added.
This is the second time this year that a top ISI official has been martyred by terrorists.
In January this year, Naveed Sadiq and Nasir Hussain – director and inspector respectively of the ISI’s counter-terrorism wing – were martyred after they were attacked in Khanewal.
Sadiq was martyred when he was on a mission to eliminate the network of a banned organization operating from Afghanistan.
Both officers were awarded Hilal Shujaat and Tagha Shujaat posthumously.
