All Steps are Being Taken to Protect Nuclear Assets: Pak Army

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Army commanders on Tuesday expressed full confidence in the country’s strong nuclear command and control structure and security arrangements related to strategic assets, the media wing of the army said in a statement after the 252nd Corps Commanders’ Conference held at GHQ. said

Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa presided over the conference.

Senior army officers met today and took a “comprehensive review of the current internal and external security situation and operational preparedness” of the army.

During the conference, US President Joe Biden’s statement about Pakistan’s nuclear program was also discussed.

“As a responsible nuclear-weapon state, Pakistan has taken all necessary steps to strengthen its nuclear security system, in line with international best practices,” the forum was told.

The meeting was also apprised of the relief and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-affected areas and the post-flood situation, particularly in Sindh and Balochistan, with the help of the army to the civil administration.

Expressing satisfaction over the operational readiness of the formations, the COAS reiterated the commitment of the Pakistan Army to defend the motherland against all threats.

He appreciated the operational readiness and continuous efforts of the formations during the flood relief duty.

US President Joe Biden’s off-the-cuff remarks on Pakistan’s nuclear program at a private Democratic Party fundraiser in California last week caused an uproar.

“And what I think is probably one of the most dangerous nations in the world: Pakistan. Nuclear weapons without coordination,” Biden said, according to a White House transcript.

Since then, the US has said it has confidence in Pakistan’s ability to control its nuclear arsenal.

“The United States has confidence in Pakistan’s commitment and ability to secure its nuclear assets,” State Department spokesman Vedant Patel told reporters.

“The United States has always viewed a secure and prosperous Pakistan as critical to American interests and, more broadly, the United States values ​​our long-standing cooperation with Pakistan,” he said.

Pakistan had also summoned US Ambassador Donald Bloom to protest over Biden’s remarks.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif tweeted that Pakistan is a “responsible nuclear state” and takes security measures “very seriously”.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said Biden’s remarks should not hurt relations, noting that the president was not speaking at an official event.
