Another FIR registered against Sheikh Rasheed in Murree police station

Another case of interference in official affairs has been registered against former interior minister Sheikh Rasheed at a police station in Murree, JEE News reported.

The former minister, who is an ally of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, was arrested from the Murree Motorway on Thursday [February 2] morning. This arrest was criticized by former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

A first information report (FIR) was filed on the complaint of the investigating officer Ashiq Ali from Abpara police station in Islamabad. According to the FIR, Sheikh Rasheed threatened the policemen and said that he would not let them go.

The FIR was registered under Section 154 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which charged Sheikh Rasheed with interfering in official affairs and resisting arrest. The FIR states that the former minister physically pushed and abused the policemen and threatened them with dire consequences at gunpoint.

Apart from the former minister, two of his employees have also been implicated in the case.

The FIR said that when the police reached Sheikh Rasheed’s residence, he came out with his armed servants and resisted the police’s efforts by threatening him. He was informed that he was booked under three sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups) and 505 (statements inciting public disorder) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

He then started resisting and interfering in the official affairs of the police, while threatening them with dire consequences at gunpoint.

Abusing the policemen, Sheikh Rasheed said, “I have been minister many times and will not leave them,” read the FIR. The police claimed to have arrested Rashid from Murree Road on Thursday morning. However, the former interior minister and his nephew Sheikh Rashid Shafiq denied the police’s stand and said that the authorities did not detain him from the motorway but from his house in Rawalpindi.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Rawalpindi Division President Raja Inayat-ur-Rehman had registered a case against Rashid at Islamabad’s Abpara police station, alleging that former President Asif Ali Zardari had killed the PTI chief. They are plotting.

In the FIR, the PPP divisional president said the AML chief tried to malign the former president and create “permanent danger” to the PPP co-chairman and his family.
