The Awami National Party (ANP), which is part of the ruling coalition, has threatened to quit the government if the by-elections in the country are postponed further.
The latest development comes a day after the federal government asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to delay the upcoming October 16 by-election, as a “political party” is expected to enter the capital later this month. was planning to “surround”
The by-elections were originally scheduled for September, but the ECP postponed them citing the unavailability of security personnel in the wake of the devastating floods – which have killed more than 1,700 people.
“Based on the confirmed reports of the intelligence agencies, it has been revealed that a political party is planning to lay siege to the federal capital between October 12 and 17 […] which is the [election] date.” Accordingly,” a letter from the Ministry of Home Affairs. ANP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Amil Wali Khan said on Twitter that his party has informed the Shehbaz Sharif-led government that if the by-elections are postponed further, his party will not only withdraw from the by-elections but also withdraw from the by-elections. “The ANP will withdraw from the election and leave the alliance. We will not let the RBM run away this time,” the ANP leader said.

The ECP had announced October 16 as the date for the by-elections after accepting the resignations of PTI MNAs and leaving eight seats vacant in the National Assembly.
