The Banking Crimes Court will pronounce its decision on the bail plea of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Hamid Zaman in the prohibited foreign funding case today (Saturday) at 1 pm.

The court reserved the decision after hearing the detailed arguments of the parties.

Banking Crimes Court Judge Aslam Gondal will now decide on the PTI leader’s bail application on judicial remand.

Background of the case
In August, a three-member bench of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) held that the PTI received funding from prohibited sources, including foreign nationals and companies, in gross violation of the Constitution and laws.

The poll body has named at least 35 non-Pakistani nationals – many of whom are of Indian origin – and more than 350 companies that funded political parties till 2014.

Following the ECP’s decision, the FIA launched a probe into the banned funding case and formed five inquiry teams.

JEE News reported that the teams were tasked to conduct investigations in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Islamabad and Quetta.

FIA officials say investigators will seek records from the State Bank of Pakistan, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and other financial institutions.

The teams will be supervised by a central team at the FIA headquarters.
