Islamabad: On Friday, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) rejected the plea of former Prime Minister Imran Khan for exemption from attendance on medical grounds in the case of PTI’s protest against the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision and violation of Article 144. .
The court summoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan on February 15, ordering him to ensure his attendance and saying that if he does not appear, it will direct bail before arrest. During the hearing, Imran Khan’s lawyer Babar Awan and the prosecutor appeared in the court. Babar Awan said that Imran Khan could not appear due to ill health. The prosecutor said that all the medical reports are from Shaukat Khanum Hospital. He claimed that his medical was not legal and that the law had been mocked. The court remarked that a video of Imran Khan was released from Zaman Park, in which he is seen walking. “Come or not, we will decide on bail,” he observed and directed the prosecutor to prove that all the people had gathered outside the ECP to protest on Imran Khan’s instructions.
Following the ECP’s disqualification of Imran Khan in the Tosha Khana reference, a terrorism case was registered against several PTI members for alleged vandalism during protests in Islamabad. The court adjourned the hearing of the case till 15th.
