The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday withdrew its petition against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sultan Sikandar Raja and his chief Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for failing to conduct local body elections. Despite the order of the Islamabad High Court.
It should be noted that PTI and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) had filed contempt of court petitions against the ECP for not holding the elections on December 31 as per the order of the High Court.
The registrar of the IHC had raised an objection to the PTI’s petition against the head of the constitutional body.
Therefore, the political party withdrew its application.
Meanwhile, the IHC on Monday heard the intra-court appeal filed by the ECP against the LG elections and declared it admissible.
A division bench headed by Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Amir Farooq heard the petition.
The court issued notices to PTI’s Ali Nawaz Awan and Jamaat-e-Islami’s Mian Aslam on January 9.
The bench, however, rejected the ECP’s plea to set aside the order of the single-member bench of the IHC.
