West Ham manager David Moyes said there was “a chance” he would be fired up on deadline day after seeing his side beat Derby for an FA Cup fifth-round tie at Manchester United.
Moyes would ideally not bring in anyone else because “we spent all our money in the summer” and brought in striker Danny Ings earlier this month.
But with Angus and central defender Kurt Zouma out injured indefinitely, Moyes may have to work.
“If both were fit we wouldn’t need either but we’re a bit short,” he said after the 2-0 win at Pride Park.
“It’s a tough decision, to try and do something quickly. I’m not ruling it out completely. There’s an opportunity.”
Angus’ injury is one of the reasons Moyes is reluctant to let Mikel Antonio leave the club, although the 32-year-old admitted to JEE News last week that it could happen.
Antonio played a part in Jarrod Bowen’s opener before snapping a six-match scoring drought at the start of the second half.
“I would say there is no chance,” Moyes said of the possibility of Antonio leaving. “Money talks in football but there is no price we are interested in taking for Mich.”
The result marked the first time Moyes’ side had won back-to-back since October, following last weekend’s crucial Premier League win over Everton.
And it now pits Moyes against his former club in a cup clash at Old Trafford for the third successive season, the Hammers last term winners in the Carabao Cup after losing in the last 16 of the FA Cup a year ago.
Defeat for the League One derby ended a 14-match unbeaten run, although manager Paul Warne knows the main challenge for his side this season is trying to return to the Championship.
