Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday that the “double standards” of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had pushed the country towards disaster.
The Prime Minister said this while addressing a ceremony after laying the foundation stone of the Bab Pakistan project, which is a national monument and upgradation of Walton Road in Lahore.
Talking about the alleged corruption in the project, the Prime Minister questioned the performance of NAB which targeted innocent people but failed to summon those involved in such cases.
I wish no one would go to the brotherhood of NAB, not even my enemy. Innocent people were nailed to the wall. [But] in this project where billions were misused, did NAB look at the corruption elements in this project?
It was this double standard that hurt Pakistan. The rule of “maybe right” should bury the country’s 220 million people forever. But do not fight these trends.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that they are going through difficult times but they firmly believe that they will overcome these difficulties with collective efforts, sacrifices and hard work.
He said that all sections of the society, including the elite, have to come forward and support the nation generously, adding that there is no other way to reach the destination except by following these virtues.
Recalling the journey of the Bab Pakistan project, the Prime Minister said that Nawaz Sharif laid its foundation stone in 1991 and then in 1997 when the Pakistan Muslim League (N) government came and the work on the project was accelerated. .
Prime Minister Shehbaz lamented that the place is still in ruins, it should have been a place for national and international visitors, adding that there should have been a memorial along with the library.
Shahbaz Sharif said that during Pervez Musharraf’s era, he was told that white granite worth 900 million rupees should be ordered from Italy for this monument.
“When I asked why, the consultant said that the creation of Pakistan without this granite was unimaginable. I told him that Pakistan could not afford it. He replied that nothing could be done now and he Ordered, so did I. Ordered him that this Italian granite will not be imported. The man lodged a complaint against me,” the prime minister said.
The prime minister said he refused to go ahead with the project with the consultant, adding that the contractor was a “fraud” with no experience but was awarded the project without a bid.
In the beginning of his speech, the Prime Minister talked about the history of this place and said that they have once again gathered at this historical place for which millions of Muslim emigrants of the subcontinent had made historical sacrifices and struggled under it. of Quaid-e-Azam’s great leadership for the establishment of a separate country.
The prime minister said he had witnessed the worst massacre, with thousands of children and women braving the onslaught on their way to the newly created homeland.
Referring to Walton Road, the Prime Minister said that it was a place where thousands of migrants from India took shelter and were supported by the local people, thus renewing the precedent of Ansar Madinah.
He added that the unique precedent will always be remembered.
