LAHORE: Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday urged the judiciary to protect the fundamental rights of party members and citizens of Pakistan, asking the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial to “draw a line” somewhere.
He said during a press conference along with PTI leader Usman Dar and a Chowkidar Javed, “People should have confidence that the judiciary will protect them… What are the namalum people (unknown persons) and Dirty Harry doing?” He is in front of everyone.” Ali is working in the Education Department.
Javed told the presser how he was picked up by some “unknown persons” and tortured after being blindfolded and taken to an undisclosed location.

They said that unknown persons stripped them naked and asked them to confess that Usman Dar had taken money from them, saying that his wife and children were also involved.
Imran Khan said that unknown persons told Javed’s wife that if she did not give a statement against Dar, they would make an obscene video of her husband.
“They wanted to make a case [against Dar]. They wanted a statement [from Javed] like they wanted a statement from Shahbaz Gul against me.
Imran said that PTI leader Azam Swati was picked up and tortured only on the basis of a tweet. He sent an objectionable video to his daughter. I did not know that citizens of this country have ever been treated like this,” he added.
The PTI chief said that several social media workers belonging to the party were also detained and severely tortured. “A boy’s parents called me and said that their son has not recovered yet… They are afraid to come out publicly because everyone is afraid of Namlum,” he said.

He urged the Chief Justice to take personal notice of Javed’s treatment, saying it was the duty of the judiciary to protect the fundamental rights of citizens.

Criticizing the Chief Election Commissioner, Imran said that there has never been a more dishonest Chief Election Commissioner in the history of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan accused the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led government of treating his party workers and leaders detained as terrorists during the “Jail Bharu Tehreek” (Court Arrest Movement). strongly condemned. According to Tehreek-e-Insaf’s argument, the movement aims to counter “attacks on constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights” and “economic corruption” by the current government.
In the tweet, Khan claimed that his party’s leadership and workers were protesting against fascism, violation of fundamental rights and crushing of the nation. It is worth mentioning here that the party’s judicial arrest movement in Peshawar, considered the stronghold of PTI, ended without any detention.
While the police made no arrests and appealed to the PTI workers to surrender themselves before the authorities, apparently none of the members heeded their call.
