The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday rejected the disqualification petition of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) MPA Faryal Talpur.
The ECP had reserved its decision on the petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Arslan Taj and Rabia Azfar for the disqualification of PPP Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari’s sister as a member of the Sindh Assembly.
In its decision today, the Election Commission wrote that the respondent has disclosed his assets and that disqualification requires material and concrete evidence. It added that the petitioners have failed to make out a case of disqualification.
The petition alleged that the PPP leader should be disqualified under Article 62 of the Constitution as he failed to declare his assets before the ECP, which means he is no longer bona fide. stay
Faryal Talpur owns properties in Larkana and Shahdadkot, the petition said Faryal Talpur was named in a case related to corruption of billions of rupees through fake bank accounts.
At the last hearing, the lawyers of the parties appeared before the Election Commission for final arguments.
The petitioner’s counsel said that Mrs. Talpur did not declare her assets properly and concealed the facts.
“This is not a case of non-declaration, all assets of my client have been declared,” Talpur’s lawyer told the ECP panel.
The Election Commission panel asked Faryal Talpur’s lawyer to show his record which would end the case. The ECP later reserved judgment on the petition which was heard today.
Talpur was elected in the 2018 general elections from Larkana constituency PS-10 Ratodero by securing 53,627 votes. His opponent Ameer Bakhsh Khan Bhutto of PTI could get only 37,665 votes.
