ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday declared PTI Chairman Imran Khan as the successful candidate from all the constituencies he had won in the by-elections held in October.
A three-member EC bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja announced the reserved decision last month.
The Election Commission had taken notice of PTI chief’s failure to submit details of election expenses within the stipulated time.
On October 16, the PTI chief had contested the by-elections on six seats NA-22, NA-24, NA-31, NA-108, NA-118 and NA-239 while by-elections were held on NA-45. Held on October 30.
The decision said that Imran Khan has submitted the required details to the election body after which it has been decided to notify him as the winning candidate for all the seven seats in the National Assembly.
According to the election rules, “Every returning candidate shall, within five days from the date of election, submit a return of election expenses in accordance with the provisions of section 29.”
On receipt of returns of election under sub-section (3) of section 24, the Commission shall publish in the Official Gazette the names of the returning candidates: Provided that the name of a candidate who fails to deposit the election expenses shall not be published. return as required by sub-section (3) of section 24.”
By-elections were held on nine National Assembly seats that fell vacant after the Speaker National Assembly accepted the resignations of PTI MNAs, who submitted their resignations en masse as per party policy.
