Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has been left out of Norway’s squad for the Euro 2024 qualifiers due to injury.
The 22-year-old Haaland suffered a back problem after scoring a hat-trick in City’s 6-0 thrashing of Burnley in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday.
That means he will miss Norway’s games against Spain and Georgia in Group A.
“Erling stepped up when he realized he couldn’t fight for the team,” Norway coach Steel Solbakken said.
“Fortunately, there is still enough confidence, talent and cohesion in this group to win points in the next matches.”
Norway’s national team doctor Ola Sand added: “After yesterday’s tests and examinations it is clear that he will not take part in the games against Spain and Georgia. It is better that he receives a medical follow-up at his club. “
Haaland has scored 21 goals in 23 appearances for Norway since making his debut in September 2019 as a 19-year-old.
His treble for City against Burnley took him to 42 goals in 37 games in all competitions so far this season, including five in a 7-0 thrashing of RB Leipzig in the Champions League earlier this month. are
Pep Guardiola’s side are second in the Premier League, eight points behind leaders Arsenal with a game in hand, and next play Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on April 1.
They face Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals and Championship side Sheffield United in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley next month.
