Fazl left for London to meet PML-N supremo Nawaz amid demise of PTI.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) president Maulana Fazl ur Rehman has left for London, sources within the party told JEE News on Saturday.

As the country’s politics is witnessing one of its worst turmoils in history while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) faces mass expulsions and bans in the wake of the May 9 protests, sources said Fazl is set to meet Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif in London to discuss the current affairs.

The JUI-F leader, who is also the head of the alliance of political parties Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) – PTI’s arch-rival, will stay in the UK for a few days and visit various cities, the sources added. The activists will meet their party workers.

The arrest of PTI chairman Imran Khan in the £190 million settlement case on 9 May and the subsequent violent protests, during which unruly supporters and activists stormed state facilities almost across the country and , has started a mass exodus of leaders from the party.

Several PTI leaders, including close associates of Khan, have announced their departure from the party over the May 9 vandalism, and some have blamed Khan’s policies for the attacks on military installations.

The latest to jump ship is the party’s Sindh president Ali Zaidi, who announced on Saturday that he is quitting politics and resigning from party posts.

At least eight people were killed and dozens injured in the nearly three-day-long protests as the current coalition government suspended internet services and deployed army troops to maintain law and order.
