ISLAMABAD: Federal Ministers Khawaja Asif and Sherry Rehman on Tuesday demanded a solution to the problems of Balochistan after their ally Akhtar Mengal raised the issue of missing persons in the National Assembly.
After Mengal apprised the House of the problems facing the province, Asif said in the lower house that the problems of Balochistan should be solved.
The defense minister said that the elites of the country have made mistakes and admitted that some sins and crimes have been committed by the rulers. He also lamented that politicians have only given lip service to the issue to get votes.
The minister said that the power struggle is going on in Pakistan and he targeted his party’s rival Imran Khan.
“[The last] government was removed constitutionally and legally. The person whose government was removed is blackmailing the state,” Asif said. He stressed that the power struggle could be fought later.
Asif also expressed regret that even after a year and a half of independence, different opinions were not tolerated.
On the other hand, Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman said that war is being waged in the name of religion but it is only a “war of power”, against Imran Khan’s call to declare the Azadi March as a “Jihad” against the government. Reference .
The PPP MNA said that he did not want terrorism to grow in the country because it was “ours” and had to be saved.
Rehman said that we should be taken into confidence about the ongoing operation. He further said that Pakistan has been able to wipe out Al-Qaeda from its territory through successful operations but now TTP is taking over it.
To start reconciliation, Balochistan’s problems should be heard. We should also hear the bitter truth about the problems of Balochistan,” Rehman said. He also urged the courts to hear human rights cases.
