Former Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar joins PML-Q

Former Governor of Punjab and former leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Sunday announced to join the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q).

Sarwar made this announcement after meeting Muslim League (Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. The PTI-led government removed Sarwar from the post of Punjab governor in April last year after differences with the party leadership.

Sources familiar with the matter also said that Chaudhry Shujaat met the former PTI leader twice at that time and offered him to join his party.

According to local media, the former governor had decided to join the Muslim League (Q) two days ago, but the official announcement of his joining the party was to be made today.

“I was invited to join the Pakistan Muslim League,” the politician said during a presser, adding that his first priority would be to “strengthen the party”.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the current political situation in the country, Sarwar said: “Politicians are not ready to sit together in the most difficult situations.”

He added that politicians work for power when they are in opposition, but no one thinks about what they should do after coming to office.

Expressing his views on the Pakistan Democratic Movement-led government in Islamabad, the former Punjab governor said the PDM would have to take strong measures economically.

Speaking about his achievements during his tenure at the Governor’s House, Sarwar said that he appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the University on merit.

After being ousted as governor last year, the politician criticized the leadership of his former party for its “foreign conspiracy” narrative.

However, he vowed to stand behind Khan despite reservations.

“On one side was the prime minister and on the other side was the entire PTI. Corruption has reached the lowest level, but we are determined to stand by Khan,” he added.
