General Bajwa admits he was behind ‘regime change’: Imran Khan

In an interview, the former prime minister said: “General Bajwa proudly told the journalist how he ousted our government because of economic policies and other issues.”

“People already knew who was behind the overthrow of the PTI government. However, General Bajwa admitted and made it clear that he was behind the overthrow of our government,” he added.

Imran Khan – who became the first prime minister to be ousted by a no-confidence vote in April last year – said the establishment and Pakistan Democratic Movement-led coalition government were currently “on the same page”.

Khan was referring to a recent column published in a local newspaper, in which a journalist wrote about his meeting with the former army chief, where General (r) Bajwa spoke about his time in office and the PTI chief’s. Talked about talking together.

In the column, the journalist wrote that Khan wanted the former army chief to save his government, but General (retd) Bajwa did not because he feared that the PTI was “dangerous to the country and if it remains in power, the country will will not survive”.

‘Confession’
Speaking to reporters in Lahore, PTI senior vice-president Fawad Chaudhry stressed the need to “consider General Bajwa’s confession, as the matter has since become clear”.

The former federal minister said that the “revelations” of the former army chief have destroyed the legitimacy of the current government. The PTI leader said that the economy continues to suffer since the end of the PTI government.

Fawad added that “differences” needed to be ironed out for the country to move forward, but stressed that Pakistan should not take dictation from friendly countries on how to conduct its affairs.

The senior PTI leader said that the country should move towards elections soon and the people will let whoever form the government.

In response, former Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen said that he did not believe that General (R) Bajwa could say such things about him, which were mentioned in the column.

Criticizing the former army chief, the former finance minister said, “On March 31, 2022, General Sahib called me a hero when I finalized the Rekodic deal.”

“The columnist wrote that the former army chief dismissed my NAB (National Accountability Bureau) cases through [Lt Gen (retd)] Faiz Hamid. The former army chief’s comments are untrue and ridiculous.”

Talking to reporters in Faisalabad, PTI leader Farrukh Habib said that finally General Bajwa has told the truth that he was behind the removal of Khan’s government.
