ISLAMABAD: Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP) has refuted the claims of Federal Law Minister Nazir Tarar, who said that the matter related to Recodek deal has been resolved with the party chief.

The federal cabinet had approved funding for the project earlier this week but coalition parties BNP-M chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) had some reservations. Moreover, Mengele also warned of separation from the federal government.

However, Law Minister Tarar claimed that matters with Mengal had been resolved, saying that he was in touch with the BNP-M chief and other coalition partners to discuss the Foreign Investment (Promotion and Protection) Act, 2022. Want to limit to Recodek?

Responding to the claim, BNP-M vice-president Malik Wali Kakar said the federal government has not addressed their grievances. He denied Tarar’s statement that the issue has been resolved and said that the minister’s statement is contrary to facts.

He also said that Federal Minister Ayaz Sadiq has asked for a time for the meeting, which will be agreed upon after consultation with his party.

Fazal Mengal’s Talk on Recodek
On Tuesday, PDM chairman and JUI(F) chief Fazlur Rehman and BNP chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal expressed reservations over not taking them into confidence on the legislation related to Recodec.

A meeting was held with Fazal Mengal in which the overall political situation of the country and Balochistan was discussed.

In this regard, sources say that the two leaders expressed concern over the lack of confidence in the Reko Diq legislation and agreed to adopt a common political strategy.

BNP-P has called a core committee meeting
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif tried to allay the concerns of allies.

Sources claimed that Mengal, who was considering parting ways with the ruling coalition, had called a meeting of the BNP-M’s core committee to discuss the recent developments and future course of action.

The former Chief Minister of Balochistan had also refused to support the Foreign Investment (Promotion and Protection) Bill 2022 in the Lower House of Parliament. However, the ruling coalition, apparently bulldozing the concerns raised by the allies, managed to get parliamentary approval on the bill.

Supreme Court fixed the deal.
Last week, the Supreme Court upheld the new agreement between the Canadian firm and the government on the Reko Diq project.

A five-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Atta Bandial, comprising Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Jamal Khan Mandukhel, expressed their opinion on the reference sent by President Arif Alvi.
