Islamabad: Today (Monday) on the occasion of International Labor Day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has highlighted the key role of labor in economic development in his message on this occasion.

In his message on the occasion of Labor Day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the welfare of laborers by improving their working and living conditions and providing them and their families with better housing, education facilities and health care. He said that the present government is determined to ensure that the fruits of economic development translate into prosperity for all sections of the population, especially the laborers and labourers.

Taking into consideration the high rate of inflation and other economic challenges, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that the government has increased the minimum wage of workers from Rs 17,500 to Rs 25,000 per month.
He said the government’s aim is to develop an automated, integrated system for labor welfare agencies to ensure transparency and reduce delays in providing relief to laborers and workers.
Meanwhile, President Dr. Arif Alvi said that this year, the nation is celebrating Labor Day with the determination to reaffirm the commitment to the dignity of labor and pay tribute to the brave and heroic struggle of workers for their basic rights. will be served.
This day is not only a reminder of the struggle of workers but also an acknowledgment of their contribution to economic development. We understand that workers and employers are partners in the production process, and their cooperation is essential for industrial efficiency which ultimately leads to socio-economic development of the country,” the President said.
He lamented that despite contributing to the economic prosperity, the workers faced unsafe working environment, unfair labor practices, poor wages, lack of job security, harassment of women at workplace, Many problems such as long working hours, and arbitrary dismissals are faced.
“The workforce is the backbone of our economy, and it is imperative to take steps to protect their rights by strictly enforcing labor laws to discourage unfair labor practices.”
He highlighted the need to provide modern skills to Pakistan’s “large labor force and youth bulge” to put the economy on the path of rapid growth. The President hoped that the federal and provincial governments would continue to work for their welfare as well as provide them with marketable skills.
He also urged the workers of the country to play their role in making the country economically strong and dynamic and employers should ensure the protection of the rights of the workers and work for their welfare.
