Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that the government will definitely arrest Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan if the law allows them to do so.
The minister’s warning came at a time when a sessions court in Islamabad had on February 28 issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Imran Khan to be produced by March 7 in the Tosha Khana case. However, Khan got bail in three different cases on the same day.
Talking to JEE News on Tuesday, the Defense Minister said, “The PTI chief will definitely be arrested if the law permits and no one doubts about it. should not be.”
He asserted that the government under the leadership of Muslim League (N) is willing to hold elections. The minister said, however, that the government would have to meet all the requirements of the electoral process, including security arrangements, if the Supreme Court agreed to allow the elections to be held.
The Supreme Court of the country is going to pronounce a decision on the automatic notice related to the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today at 11 am. Yesterday, the Supreme Court reserved its decision on the suo motu notice taken over the delay in announcing the date of elections in KP and Punjab.
The Muslim League (N) leader said that although the party benefited politically from the presence of its vice president Maryam Nawaz in Pakistan, the absence of the party supremo is hurting Nawaz Sharif. However, he said that Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan before the elections.
He said that price hikes will be a major factor in the upcoming elections, but added that the economic situation today is better than it was three to four months ago.
Imran Khan brought hundreds of people to the court, some of them armed, who broke down the gate of the judicial complex, according to the minister. He said that during the hearing of Nawaz Sharif, most of his colleagues were prohibited from entering the court room.
Taking a veiled jibe at the judiciary, Asif said that Imran Khan is running on lawlessness with a free license from all quarters. He pointed out that under such circumstances PTI leaders including Khan himself are getting bail.
PML-N leader gave his example and said that three benches were dissolved before bail was granted. He then mocked Khan, saying, “It’s been six months but his [Khan’s] leg is still in plaster and his injuries have not been medically examined.”
