Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb on Monday denied reports that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will take a vote of confidence in the National Assembly.
The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led government has been on its toes since coming to power in April last year, with repeated protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), a deteriorating economy, and its recent spat with the judiciary. A stalemate. .
“The Prime Minister has not decided to take a vote of confidence. There was no such consultation and [a vote of confidence] is not required,” Aurangzeb said in a tweet.
The minister described Shehbaz – who was sworn in as prime minister on April 11, 2022 – as the “consensus” candidate of the people, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and coalition parties.

The information minister claimed that “rumors” were not facts and asked the media not to run news about the prime minister “without verification”.
The minister’s tweet came after sources told JEE News that the prime minister has decided to take a vote of confidence this week, while consultations with Muslim League (N) chief Nawaz Sharif have been completed.
According to the sources, the Prime Minister had instructed the parliamentarians of all the ruling parties to be present in Islamabad for voting.
