ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday ordered the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) women leaders Dr Shireen Mazari and Senator Falak Naz Chitrali.
After being released from the district and sessions court, the two politicians went to the IHC to appear before the judge hearing the plea for relief from further arrest.
In the Supreme Court of the federal capital, the police requested a three-day remand of the two PTI politicians, which the court rejected.
The judge remarked that there is no need for further investigation of Falak Naz and Shireen Mazari.
The court then issued an order against his arrest and directed the authorities to submit the details of the cases registered against him.
A district and sessions court in Islamabad had earlier dismissed the case against the PTI leaders when they were re-arrested last night – hours after they were released from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.
Both women politicians were released after the court ruled in their favour.
Senator Chitrali and senior PTI vice-president Dr Mazari – against whom a case of attempted murder and display of weapons was registered at Tarnool police station – were produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate Shabbir Bhatti.
Mazari and Falak Naz re-arrested
Mazari’s daughter Iman Zainab Mazari-Hazaar confirmed that the PTI leaders, who were released from Adiala Jail on the orders of the IHC on Tuesday evening, were re-arrested from outside the jail soon after.
He was arrested on May 9 during nationwide riots following the detention of PTI Chairman Imran Khan by Rangers personnel following orders from the National Accountability Bureau.
“Senator Falak Naz’s family and I (and our lawyer) were waiting outside Adiala Jail to welcome Uma and Falak Naz. Islamabad police arrested them outside the jail when we were about to leave. They were waiting outside. They asked us to wait. We have no news.” where they have been taken,” Mazari Haad tweeted yesterday evening.
IHC Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb had earlier declared Mazari’s arrest illegal under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) and ordered his release.
This decision was pronounced on the petition filed by the daughter of former human rights minister. The bench also ordered the release of Senator Naz, who was arrested under the same law as Mazari.
