Rawalpindi: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday said that speculations about Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir’s visit to the US are “baseless”.

“There are baseless speculations on social media that the COAS is visiting the US,” the army’s media wing said in a series of tweets, as it debunked the speculations.

The ISPR added that the Army Chief is on an official visit to the United Kingdom (UK) from February 5 to 10 in connection with the fifth Pak-UK Stability Conference.

The ISPR added that the Army Chief is on an official visit to the United Kingdom (UK) from February 5 to 10 in connection with the fifth Pak-UK Stability Conference.

The media wing of the army explained that the conference is a biennial event for military-to-military cooperation between the two countries, which Pakistan’s top military leadership has been participating in since 2016.

In view of the growing problem of Taliban militancy and the situation in the South Asian region, this visit is being considered very important. This is General Munir’s first visit to the UK after assuming the post of Pakistan’s powerful army chief at the end of November last year.

The conference will also focus on the impact of the Ukraine war on the European Union, the United Kingdom and consideration of Pakistan.

The Army Chief will visit the British Army headquarters and address top military commanders, including the UK Army Chief. According to sources, General Munir will also address a security think tank at the end of his visit.

The ISPR statement was issued by the Ministry of External Affairs to comment on the Army Chief’s supposed visit to the US.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch told reporters during the weekly press briefing that “we are not aware of the Army Chief’s visit to America, ISPR can better inform on this issue.”
