LAHORE: In a major reshuffle in the bureaucracy, the federal government on Monday appointed Zahid Akhtar Zaman as Punjab Chief Secretary, Usman Anwar as Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Ghulam. Bilal Siddique Kamiana was appointed in place of Mohammad Dogar. JEE News reported.
The newly appointed Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman belongs to the 24th Common of Pakistan Civil Services. He has served in many important positions in Punjab.
IGP Dr Usman Anwar has replaced the recently appointed Amir Zulfiqar Khan. Before posting, Usman Anwar was performing his duties as Additional IG Motorway Police.
Usman Anwar joined the police force as an ASP in 1995 and has a good reputation. Anwar belongs to 23 Command of Pakistan Police Service. He has earlier served as Additional IG Special Branch, SSP Operations Faisalabad, Crime Investigation Department (CID) and Chief Traffic Officer Rawalpindi in Punjab.
Usman has also served as DPO Okara, DPO Sargodha and Telecommunication and Elite Police. He has also held important positions in Punjab, Sindh and Islamabad Police.
Meanwhile, the government has replaced Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Ghulam Mohammad Dogar and posted Additional IG Bilal Siddique Kamiana. Dugar has been directed to report to the Establishment Division.
Dogar headed the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed to investigate the attack on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march in Wazirabad.
Sources in the Punjab bureaucracy have predicted more changes in the Punjab bureaucracy after caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi took oath.
Restructuring of JIT
Following allegations leveled by members of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) against its head and CCPO Ghulam Mehmood Dogar, the investigation committee was reconstituted once again on Sunday.
The development came after differences between Dogar and the other four members of the JIT. Four members of the investigative body were replaced after objections were raised over Duggar’s ‘politically inclined’ conduct.
Mian Dawood, the lawyer of the accused involved in the attack on Imran Khan, argued that Ghulam Mehmood Dogar is investigating the case as per the will of the PTI leader.
He added that the nation already considers Ghulam Mehmood Dogar responsible for obstructing the investigation of the case.
However, on Monday, the federal government set up a separate Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the alleged assassination.
