A local court in Lahore on Friday rejected the plea of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) leader Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar for immunity from personal appearance and issued a bailable arrest warrant.
Safdar could not appear in the court as he had to appear in another court in Rawalpindi for the hearing.
The court adjourned the hearing of Captain Safdar’s case till October 25.
The PML-N leader was booked for inciting people against the government and state institutions.
Earlier, the Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Gujranwala indicted Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar Awan and Muslim League (N) MPA Imran Khalid Butt on charges of sedition.
In October 2020, a case was registered against Captain Safdar and MPA Khalid at Satellite Town Police Station, Gujranwala.
In the FIR registered on the request of SHO Suhadra police station, it is said that Captain Safdar, son-in-law of three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif, presided over a meeting of local leaders and workers of Muslim League-N in Satellite Town.
During the meeting, Safdar made inappropriate remarks about the army and its officers. He also allegedly tried to incite public hatred against the army.
